The Greek Civilization

Greeks can truly be called one of the first civilizations of europe. It is the civilization that introduced mankind to new ways of thinking and laid the foundation of Democracy in the world. Modern Greece can be called ne of the first democracies in the world.

They also took dramatics, arts and architecture to a level never before seen by mankind. Four out of seven wonders of the ancient world are testament to the greek art and architectural acheivements at that time.

WONDERS OF THE WORLD

These were the most remarkable buildings ever built by mankind that instilled everyone in their with awe and wonder. The first such list was made by ancient greek historian Herodotus around 400 BC which is now known as Wonders of the Greek world .

The list includes:

1. The Great Pyramid at Giza
2. The Hangind Gardens of Babylon
3. The Temple of Artemis
4. The Temple of Zeus
5. the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
6. The Colossus of Rhodes
7. The Lighthouse of Alexandria

After that a number of lists have been made including Wonders of the Medieval World, Wonders of Modern World and a renewed list of Wonders of the Ancient World by New7Wonders Foundation and USA today etc.

BLOG Policy

This blog will feature entries and research about a new civilization every month and if the readers are interested in more detailed examination of the civilization under discussion this time limit can be lengthened or shortened [:)]. I will search for as many things as I can come up with about any civilization but hey I am just a student too. So if you want to add something you have my and all of the readers gratitude.
Also the choice of the next week’s civilization will be based on the suggestions you guys make and what you guys are most interested in because we can all explore best the civilization that we are most interested in.
If you are living in the area of the civilization under discussion then I really request to add into our insight about that civilization and its characteristics that still influence modern society.
Everyone is again requested to always show respect to the great endeavors of many peoples that we today call civilization.

WELCOME, EVERYBODY

We can find hundreds of definitions of culture describing it as a set of human activities and symbolisms that give activity significance in a society and it is differentiated by elements such as customs, traditions, laws, styles and standards.
The question that has always pinched me is that why culture is always depicted as such a dry of sometimes controversial subject.
To me culture is a vibrant phenomenon, a testament to human creativity, uniqueness and never ending search for better. Culture is an evolutionary phenomenon always changing and adopting. Every culture is beautiful and deserves respect and admiration in its own right.
Every culture has its own unique sense of beauty

Whether it is the simplicity, strength and relationship with nature of Maori warriors

Or the elaborate silk robes, armor and ritualistic life and attention to detail of Japanese samurai.

Whether it is the grandeur of Taj Mahal

Or serenity and proportion of Japanese temples
